BMPR and Books: Abby in Action!

Talk about a banner way to kick off

Abby’s Book Corner – San Antonio!

Thanks to The BMPR Social Media Community, books were piling up at

the Holiday Inn Airport Tuesday…

(a special thank-you to Donna Tuttle, who had the idea to ask BMPR attendees to bring books for the kickoff,

and to Davis Staedtle who upp’d the ante with his iPhone/iTouch/iAwesomeness)

Abby’s Book Corner-San Antonio is off to a great start!

** Note: Abby’s Book Corner – San Antonio now has its own Amazon Wish List!

Let the collection begin...

No way around it – the amount of support for this project is overwhelming … and it’s just getting started!

It’s one of the reasons I ♥ San Antonio!

This city knows how to embrace its own – and anyone else it feels a connection to.

No wimpy, high-hair, scared-to-touch-for-fear-of-germs fake air-kisses will do for this crowd.

San Antonio gives great, big, take-your-breath-away-in-a-good-way bear hugs to people, projects and efforts it wants to support.

The social media community knows how to bring it! And I’m not just talking about the books (though they did that, too, donating 500+ books to this effort, which is so dear to my brother and sister-in-law, to our families, and to me). During the afternoon BMPR Pow-Wow, there were tweets zipping through the Twittersphere, getting the message of Abby’s Book Corner out there, giving props to people who went above and beyond the call of duty (KLRN – I’m talking to you!), and who were getting the message loud and clear that every book matters; everyone can make a difference.

Abby's Book Corner & The San Antonio Spurs

A Spurs Bag Full o' Books

I am immensely proud of this project. I am beyond amazed by my brother & sister-in-law Will & Mary and the grace and courage they show every single day in the way they love each other and the way they honor Abby and the way they cherish Victoria.

I am thrilled that Abby’s Book Corner is expanding its reach to South Texas; that every book donated in San Antonio to ABC-SA will stay in San Antonio,

to be donated to Methodist Children’s Hospital of South Texas.

And I am overwhelmed everyday when someone asks me, “How can I help?” or “How can I get involved?” or “What do you need now?”

And those are exactly the questions I was getting during The BMPR meeting.

So, here goes nothing…

More Books for Abby's Book Corner

Dr. Suess & a little J.K. Rowling

As I’ve written in an early post, Providence College Preparatory High School is already planning a book drive, tentatively set for April 19 – April 30. Other teachers and friends who own businesses around town have shown interest in doing the same. Will & Mary are setting up an Amazon Wish List that will direct all books donated through that link to the San Antonio Drive. I’m brainstorming with people on other shops, restaurants, groups and clubs we can approach to help collect books – and that’s where you come in.

Have an idea? Own a business? Want to give back to your community? Send me your ideas – I’m all ears, and eager for help in making Abby’s Book Corner another success story in giving in San Antonio.

  1. Bernice,

Thank you and many thanks to all of your BMPR friends that are supporting ABC-SA! Will and I are so touched by the number of books donated for Methodist Children’s Hospital.
